Lewannick - Launceston - Cornwall
Welcome to the Green Art Co.
The Green Art Co. is owned and run by Sho Monaghan and Jez Bateman. We live and
work in Lewannick, Cornwall and this is our online studio. The idea for the Green
Art Company started 5 years ago after looking at the various recycling bins at
home and thinking that there must be other things we can do with some of this.
So we started making pen holders, weaving baskets from cardboard and plastic and
reusing as much as we could before we resorted to the local recycling facilities.
We always wanted to work for ourselves and the time seemed right. The Green Art
Co. was formed mainly as a response to today's increasingly 'disposable' society
and the unacceptable amount of rubbish that ends up in landfill sites. We work
hard to run our business as an ethical one, even though that sometimes makes life
harder it is worth it.
Today at The Green Art Co. we use predominately recycled materials wherever we
can to produce unique, quality individual art for the home and garden.
 |
A few years earlier Jez started making candle holders and copper bracelets from
stripped, household electric cable. Seeing these beautiful pieces start life as
bulky plastic coated cable is truly inspiring. |
| Sho had started learning the art of Stained Glass and it was a natural progression
from making panels and smaller pieces to experimenting with cutting wine and beer
bottles and creating original lanterns, panels, water features and mobiles. |
 |
| After putting our heads together one day we made some lanterns from the tops
and bottoms of beer bottles on garden canes/hazel rods with copper wire and natural
twine. With gravel in the bottom and complete with a Citronella T-lite they look
stunning in every garden or in plant pots around the home. |
 |
 |
Every lantern is handmade and unique. Colours of bottles, cane and twine will
vary. The beer bottle lanterns will always be a favourite and provide a beautiful
example of recycling at its most original. |
We have beer bottle lanterns in stock all year round and they are available in
any number, call us for more details or to place an order. All other pieces are
custom made to individual requirements.
| After making the first few beer bottle lanterns we started to realise some of
the potential of our work - and how well it fitted in with our lifestyle. We have
always been concerned with environmental issues and try to promote recycling,
an awareness of the importance of green living and respect for the environment
- from using environmentally friendly products to creating habitats for wildlife
to minimising pollution. |

Our Work
At The Green Art Co. every item is unique and carefully made to each customer's
requirements. Basically any item you buy is a commission made just for you, in
your choice of style and colours. (except for beer bottle lanterns which can be
ordered in bigger numbers.)
How Does That Work?
Well, our online studio's gallery pages show you some of the pieces we have made
for people and provide samples of the type of work we produce. When you have an
idea of the sort of piece you want for your home then e-mail with your requirements.
You will be kept informed of the progress of any work commissioned by you. Please
do not expect next day delivery though as pieces take time to make! Usually once
designs have been agreed we will require a 20% deposit.
How Much Will It Cost?
Not as much as you may think! It really depends on the work involved. There are
guide prices on the gallery pages to give you an idea and there is something for
every budget. For example:
| This Gothic lantern is made from an old fencepost, hollowed out and carved. It
measures 31cm x 15cm. The four 'windows' are made from 12 pieces of glass in a
simple Gothic design in four colours. One window is removable and a t-lite is
placed inside. A lantern like this would cost around £80. If you wanted a bigger
lantern, an electric one or a more complex pattern in the glass this would increase
the price. |

When you contact The Green Art Co. with your ideas you will be surprised at how
affordable original art can be! Call us now for more details.
